ABOUT WIRELESS INDUSTRY:

For most people today mobile computing triggers images of notebooks with the capabilities of desk top computers. Being able to enter data, send faxes and communicate via a modem while in vehicles and airports are common tasks among white collar mobile users such as sales professionals. However, what many people do not know is industrial hand held computers (HHC) have come a long way very recently and now can pack the punch of a souped up notebook with the added advantage of being extremely rugged. These industrial HHCs are being installed by the thousands in trucks and on forklifts worldwide.

The ability to utilize today's array of exciting technologies such as wireless e-mail, wireless data transfer, access to the internet (browsing/ surfing, communicating via, etc.) and global positioning systems in a rugged HHC is expanding the types of industries (and thus workers) that can utilize and leverage these technologies in their operations. Today, wireless mobile computing solutions have been developed for applications such as beverage route sales, package and parcel pick up and utility dispatching and work management.

Companies that are aggressively embracing wireless technological advancements in non-traditional areas are reaping benefits of improved customer service and reduced operating expenses. Being able to respond to customer requests instantly with real-time dispatching to the nearest service person drastically improves a company's level of service and image with its customers. Imagine being told that a service person will respond to your inquiry between 4 and 5P.M. tomorrow and being given a money back guarantee! This is what many cable companies are doing with real time dispatch systems.

Positive financial impact comes from such things as real time access to critical data for management decisions, reducing travel time to and from jobs, eliminating redundant entering of paper based data, and increasing the number of jobs and functions performed during a single shift. If done properly, the investment to go mobile and wireless can, in some cases, be recovered in a period as short as five months.

CONFERENCE:
